Our History

Originally established as a fundraising event for Activ in 1975 and attended by 500 people, the City to Surf for Activ has grown into the second largest running event in Australia.  By taking part in 2017 you will help us raise money and provide essential supports to more than 2,000 people living with disability in WA.

In 2017 we will be celebrating 43 years of WA’s largest community sporting event and Activ’s major fundraising event. Take a jog down a memory lane with us.

Celebrating 43 Years

The City to Surf for Activ is Activ’s major fundraising event. Now in its 43rd year, it has become the second largest officially timed race in the Southern Hemisphere with over 50,000 participants taking part in the series in 2013. The much loved Perth event has now evolved into an entire City to Surf for Activ Series with events in Karratha, Geraldton, Albany and Busselton being launched in 2013.

For 43 years the Perth City to Surf has been an icon of the Western Australian sporting calendar, capturing the hearts of tens of thousands of people. The state government and event stakeholders fully endorse this event and have been helping to promote its virtues as a charity fundraising event, as well as the biggest community sporting event in the state, for many years. Their ongoing support helps to foster an event that is the envy of all with respect to the goodwill it creates within the broader community of Western Australia.

The traditional 12km event has evolved over the years and the carnival now includes a Marathon, Half Marathon, 12km run/walk and the 4km run/walk/wheelchair. The City to Surf for Activ is truly a unique running carnival and one that will remain on the WA sporting calendar for many generations to come.
